Just as everyone else is getting out, I’m getting in
June 26, 2012 in Hardy-har-har
As usual, at about the same time everyone else is trying to get away from something, I’m just learning about it.
Case in point: Yoga Pants
I kept hearing other bloggers talk about how ashamed they were that they’re resigned to them…which made me ask…
What is this ‘yoga pants’ you speak of, Ladies?
I just had to check them out. I was on a mission. I actually Googled “yoga pants” to see what I could find. And to my surprise, I found that I might just be able to pull off the yoga pant look and find comfort equal to my beloved skirts and dresses on days when my leg hair creeps to a noticeable length.
Low and behold, while perusing my local Costco with my newly acquired membership, I came upon a display with a bunch of yoga pants. No way! Yoga pants – at Costco? Does anyone buy clothes at Costco, let alone yoga pants? I gave ‘em a look, just for grins. The girl on the package looked pretty chill. And she accessorized her yoga pants with a loose blouse and fluffy scarf. Hmm. I could pull that off. But first I had to check my options elsewhere.
I looked at Target because, c’mon, I’m always looking for an excuse to look at anything at Target. And Target is pretty much the only other place I go that has yoga pants. But I couldn’t do it. Target’s yoga pants just looked too…well…yoga pantsy. So back to Costco.
I can’t believe I bought yoga pants at Costco but I have to say…THEY ARE AWESOME!
Why is everyone trying to get out of these things? Ridiculous! If it weren’t so dang hot my new yoga pants would be the base to my go-to, almost-daily wardrobe. The only question I have is, what can I wear with my new find that at least partially covers my padonka donk? T-shirts long enough to do the trick would be like XXL or something. I’m not embarrassed of the ‘ole caboose but I’m just not into flaunting it around town…anymore.
I am a bit ashamed to admit something, though, about my new pair of yoga pants: I wore them out to dinner. I didn’t mean to – it just happened. My husband and I were given a last minute opportunity to go on the first date we’ve had in almost a year and so I just ran for it. I wouldn’t have cared if I were wearing a moo moo and Kermit the Frog slippers, my ass was getting in the car. So, I was only slightly embarrassed about being in yoga pants while sipping on $2 margaritas.
Any who, thanks for the suggestion my fellow yoga pant clad lady blogger friends…I will be happy to take your discarded yoga pant collection after you’ve moved on to an equally comfortable yet more stylish substitute. One that I, of course, will not know about until a good five years after you have begun raving.
Word.

Oh, welcome to the great world of yoga pants! There really is nothing like them in terms of comfort. And whenever my husband comments on them, I just remind him how much better they are than sweatpants–you know, the type with the elastic around the ankles? Ick!
Enjoy!
Ahh yes…elastic ankles…Those were the “mommy pants” of the 90′s. Yoga pants are the “mommy pants” of the 2000′s. Thanks for the comment. I need to catch up with you guys! I saw there’s been some changing going on…
Yes, changes: and then there were two!
You will find Costco to be the best place for basics like yoga pants, cotton Ts with some stretch – sleeveless, short sleeved, 3/4 length and long sleeves. Also cotton turtlenecks for winter and baby-fine wool sweaters for winter. Buy ‘em in every colour they come in, otherwise, you will kick yourself in the butt later.
I also buy my yoga pants there. I prefer the cropped pants style, but I did buy one pair of full length ones and I like those as well. And the only pair of skinny jeans that I have ever been able to look good in.
I wear yoga pants for casual outings all the time. I wear them with dressy tunic tops from Kohl’s, heels or cute flats, some bracelets and a chunky necklace and/or earrings, and no one knows but what I am just wearing casual knit cropped pants.
I got the idea from a friend who always looks well-turned-out. I could not believe where she bought them or how little she had paid.
OMG! Tunics! Duh! Of course. I had to look it up to remember what a tunic was (I’m so fashion backward) but you are so on! That’s perfect. And you are so right – I can’t believe the quality of most of the stuff at Costco. I’ve also bought some tank tops and short sleeved t-shirts and they are so soft and comfy. I’m still new to the Costco thing and the first few times I went there I just sort of equated the quality of the products to the stuff that Sam’s has… and I hate Wal-Mart (no offense if you shop there, it’s only my opinion). But now that I have a better opportunity to check out their stuff, I’m pretty impressed.
Thanks for the comment…tunics…of course!
If you live near a Kohl’s, check out some of the Daisy Fuentes label tunics. I just bought a couple in a style that really make your waist look small even if you don’t HAVE a waist.
I will check them out! Thanks so much for the suggestion!
I tried to go to Kohls. I had forgotten what it was like to shop there with young children – they sure don’t make it easy! And unfortunately I don’t get an opportunity to go very many places without the bratlets tagging along. Do you, by any chance, know of any other good tunic sources? I’m so excited but I don’t know where to go!
Thank you!!
I was late to the yoga-pant world too, but now I live in them. And I’ve been wondering about long tops too, and now i’m totally going to Costco AND now I’m off to look up tunics from Kohl’s!!!
Carol, I agree that sometimes it is just not worth it to go shopping with children. Our kids are pretty much grown, so that is not an issue for me now. But you have my sympathy. Do you need wider aisles that accommodate bigger shopping carts that you could put the children in? What about Nordstrom Rack, if there is one of those near you? A little pricier, but maybe easier to cope with the kids there? I am not a big fan of Target for clothing (love it for lots of other things, though) – but you might find some tunics to try on there and get a feel for what you like. Same with the George line at WalMart. Sometimes they have dressier/silkier knits in the George line. Even if you are not a big fan of Wal-Mart clothing, you could find a ‘look’ that is good for your body type and then order something similar online. Kohl’s online have some great prices on tunics online sometimes.
Thank you SO much for the awesome suggestions. Kohls doesn’t have carts big enough for my kids. I like to throw Addy in the child seat and Arden in the cart. I really liked shopping there before I had two little brats to worry about though. I didn’t think about ordering online, that is an option. Thanks!
I just thought of anothe store that might be easier to cope with children at. Burlington Coat Factory. At least they have wider aisles and larger carts than Kohl’s do.
Also, here is a link to a tunic that I saw on ideeli.com that would look good with yoga pants, either cropped or long. It could be dressed up or down. I have a similar one in tan & purple that I actually bought at Burlington Coat Factory. That sleeve is incredibly slimming. You have to see it on you before you realize just how nice it looks.

Oh my gosh, Burlington. I totally forgot about them. Good one! I really, really appreciate it!
